As a writer I have to say, without tooting my own horn, I am pretty decent when it comes to ideas, flow, creativity, and understanding the topic being written on without going of topic. What I do lack when it comes to my writing is without a doubt alternate word use, specialized grammar, and spelling. The great part about what needs to be worked on is that my problems are more specialized and technical, instead of the flow or ideas of writing on a topic.
Alternative word use for me is the biggest problem I have as a writer, in front of specialized grammar, and spelling. Writing at a college level really keeps you on your toes in the aspect of more encouragement on using professional and intellectual words in your paper. Sometimes that just does not happen for me as a written, it happens enough to where I excel in my class but there is still issues and a lot of thinking of, "What word works better"? Even in high school I struggled with this, going around the big words out of fear that my paper will just sound off if I use to many "smart" words. The great part about this issue is that my bank for alternative words has grown very much and continues to grow as an excel as a student.
Specialized grammar is another issue I have as a writer, so its good news that I am English 236 to work on these problems. So when I say specialized grammar I am taking about symbols such as colons, semicolons, dashes, brackets and slashes, and proper use of a coma. I'm not terrible at this, but specialized grammar is not my strong suit. By the end of the English 326 course, I hope to have a close to, if not total, full understanding of specialized grammar. I want to shock people in my writing with the amount of professionalism that I have in my papers.
Last but not least is the issue of spelling. Spelling out of all my issues is the one I am most determined to beat by the time I complete college. I understand that there is tool that prevent us from mis-spelling words but for me, I still have problems. The great thing about this issue is that there is a ton of help when it comes to horrible spelling. Spell check has saved my life in the writing without a doubt.
Even I still have other issues when it comes to writing, my issues are fairly mellow. In my own personal opinion issues of flow and creativity are the real problems when it comes down to writing. Dont get me wrong, technical issues are just as important but they are less difficult to fix. Making someone have that certain flow along with keeping up on creative ideas is so difficult to fix due to the fact that it may sound so right to the individual. But with work and determination, nothing is impossible and once your issues of writing have been fixed, the sky is the limit
